Caves Branch is a mystical place almost stranger to the human exploitation. Being actually a system of four caves which formed during several hundred thousand years, Caves Branch is a protected location. This incredible system of caves is a part of the largest cave system in Central America. The Caves Branch National Park has many secrets to tell about the Mayan rituals and their beliefs but it is also a great adventure opportunity especially for cave tubing.
The Mysterious Underground Life of Mayas
The Caves Branch includes Footprint, Waterfall, Petroglyph and the Crystal Cave. Their names describe exactly what you can see inside them.
Caves Branch is a very good example for the erosive power of water. The limestone was slowly degraded by the storms which had the role of a mild acid over it. The amazing underground tunnels are a natural wonder which can not seize to amaze both the archeologists and the visitors. The shape of the caves and the size of the chambers, the stalagmite and stalactite change from year to year. Even with all the changes, there are still trances of the Mayan usage. You can witness some of it by exploring the human footprints which have been embedded into the limestone or admiring pottery and altars built by the Mayans in order to bring thanks to their Gods. The Mayans believed the underworld reached through the cave can bring them closer to their Gods. That is why they brought offerings and they were sometimes sacrificing humans inside the caves.
The mystical part is usually mixed very well by the guides with the adventurous part. Cave tubing is not a challenging physical experience but the most important things are not to be claustrophobic and to be ready to get wet. All you need to do is sit back and relax, while the water takes you though tunnels. Depending on the cave you will be able to see small waterfalls, ancient paintings and crystalline rocks.
The Season Matters
The ideal timing is from December to May as Summer and Fall are very rainy seasons. This will get the caves filled with water, therefore impossible to explore.
Caves Branch is an excellent location for the entire family. As long as everyone is up for some fun and amazing scenery you can call it the tiptop activity of a day. Take a tour of the Caves Branch as soon as possible until this natural wonder is still least known for you to fully enjoy everything it has to offer.
