No other site in China defines red as vividly and uniquely as the Chishui Danxia Landform in Guizhou Province does. The strikingly awesome hues of red earth and rock layers of unusual shapes and patterns in contrast with the dense vegetation and green forests, the torrents from the waterfalls and the gaping mouth of the caves give an impression of an out-of-this world landscape that stretches more than a thousand square kilometers in the backyard of Zunyi City. It is a typical destination for those who are looking for something break the ice off of the ordinary.
This fascinating attraction is located within one of China’s national reserves which, aside from the danxia landform, showcases two more points of interest; it is home to the Shizhangdong Waterfalls and it is the kingdom of the rare Polystachyous Aphanamixis trees. The Shizhangdong Waterfalls group is referred as the “first waterfall in China” crediting to its sheer size and for being the home of a large collection of flora and fauna surrounded by a sea of bamboo trees. In a similar note, the Polystachyous Aphanamixis trees thrive in this national park partly because the government has promoted it as a protected site for over 40,000 of its species to be preserved here. The site of Chishui’s danxia is also the meeting point of the Sichuan Basin and the Guizhou Plateau. All these attributes put together collectively enhances the conflicting and at the same time complementing features that made this place one of the Top 7 Most Beautiful Danxia in China.
The Chishui Danxia Landform is also historically popular for housing the Red Army Monument, a symbol of the crossing of the Red Army on the Long March in Guizhou Province. Visitors usually reach the area by land travel from the city to the nearest point where they can take a boat ride on the Chishui River to Bin’an town, and from there, the most rewarding trek to the danxia starts.
Known to many as the largest landscape in China, it offers a scenic refuge where you can feel as intimate to nature as you wish to be. You can come and stimulate your sense of sight with the colors of the panoramic treasure that embraces you, be lulled by the sound of the whispering brooks, the rage of the rushing waterfalls and the serene song of the wind as the tress and the bamboo dance in unison. Whether you leave your eyes open or close them in pure appreciation, your nature trip is sure to top off more than the best spas in the big city.
