Derived from the Dutch name “Fried Landt Flaak”, the little village on the West coast of Mauritius and its white sand beach with the same name is the country’s second most appreciated tourist destination after Grand Brie. Its importance developed in time from the 1960s when it was a plain fishermen village and the cemetery where people from nearby villages came to bury their relatives to an appreciated touristic resort which still maintains the traditional hospitality and the local culture.
Flic en Flac Beach and the village with the same name are located on the West coast of Mauritius in the district called Black River, not far from the capital city Port Louis. The region is famous for its dreamy beaches, the colorful coral reef surrounding them and the chain of mountains protecting this spot of heaven from the South East trade winds. Flic en Flac Beach and its calm, shallow, blue reef-protected water is said to be one of the drier beaches in the area; the natural beauty of the Casuarinas trees offering it shade, color and a delightful aspect.
Besides the peaceful sights and the calm ambiance offered by the blue lagoon all year through, you can enjoy a wide range of water sports and admire the magical, diversified marine life. Diving and snorkeling into the blue waters will not only be a treat to the eye but you will be amazed with the under-water caves and ancient ship wrecks that these coral filled waters are hiding in their depths.
Besides the paradise experience firsthand, Flic en Flac offers a lot of activities that you can enjoy with your friends and family. Whether you are into photography, a true nature lover or just the curious kind, you should visit the La Vanille Crocodile Park to observe the magnificent creatures imported from Madagascar or the Domaine de I’Ylang Ylang, where the flowers with the same name will enchant your senses. The La Val Natural Park, a valley between two mountains can offer you the ultimate wildlife experience where you can observe the biodiversity of Flic en Flac without having to put on your snorkeling equipment.
The “free and flat land” as the Dutch have called it is the name entitling both a village which suffered a spectacular metamorphosis and also a beach with crystal clear waters that can please everyone. Enter the magnificent underwater world and discover the most beautiful corals, listen to the old stories that the ancient culture keeps well preserved and enjoy a relaxed vacation in a destination matching your dreams. Flic en Flac Beach can introduce you to the most peaceful sights with grand sunsets and turquoise waters, a fun filled ambiance and a transformed traditional village which still remained eco beautiful.
