Irish Tradition In Lyrics

Doolin is a small fishing village which aside from the raw countryside with magnificent surroundings including the Cliffs of Moher or the Doolin Cave is famed for being a muse. Nicknamed the capital of Irish traditional music, the pubs here have been the ''launching stage'' for many well-known names and the spot of entertainment for those who wish to discover the country's best through the means of lyrics. The harmonic grounds of Doolin are rumored to have provided the inspiration in the creating the much appreciated trilogy 'The Lord of the Rings''. In another fictional association, the PlayStation game ''Folklore'' features this Irish destination which allows the player to access to the world of the dead.

In sleepy Mode

Located on the Atlantic coast in the West side of Ireland, Doolin was mostly described as a sleepy fishing village of the County Clare. The sleepy mood changes once you enter the three music pubs Mc'Dermott's, McGann's and O'Connor's which have put this Irish name on the map. During summer, the stages where many national artists have gained fame celebrate with happy notes nightly and the spirited fest continues sometimes in winter too.

The Doolin area has archeological sites believed to be dating since the Iron Age and even earlier. The name ''Doolin'' had an artistic value even before the connection to the solfege because it was once a residence of the poet Francis MacNamara, a landlord of this area in earlier times.

Composing a Country's Identity

Among the musicians who have delighted their audience in Doolin are Gussie, Sharon Shannon, The Russel Brothers, Davy Spillane, Steve Wickham or The Waterboys. Considered a synonym to traditional music are The Russel Brothers who lived in Doolin and achieved world fame with their talent. The Community center is name honoring them and during the last weekend of February locals celebrate the Russel Memorial Weekend.

More than Pubs, more than Music

Even though Doolin is a small destination highlighted by the amazing atmosphere found in its music pubs, there are many reasons why this destination can be described as a perfect one. In the North side of the county, one can admire the mighty Cliffs of Moher, some of the highest in Europe. Stretching over 8 kilometers these 200 meters tall giants have been voted as one of the ''New Seven Wonders of the Nature''.

The Doolin Cave discovered in 1952 is another hotspot of the grounds where happy notes are praised. Home of The Great Stalactite, the cave opened in 2006 exposes the longest recognized cave sculpture in the Northern Hemisphere measuring 7,3 meters.

Listen to the specific Irish beats in one of Doolin's famous music pubs and admire the raw, natural beauty which provide artists with inspiration.

How to get there?

The easiest way to reach the capital of Irish traditional music Doolin is by bus or by ferry. There are daily trips from the Irish capital Dublin (262 kilometers/162 miles), from Galway (73 kilometers/45 miles) or Limerick (80 kilometers/50 miles). The ferry is a good option if you are coming to Doolin from the Aran Islands but remember that this service is available mostly from Easter time until October depending on the weather.
