Crocodiles' Home Sweet Home

Spread out over 1,000 square kilometers in the eastern region of Paraguay, a landlocked country in South America, is the Lago Ypoa National Park. This is not the 5-star Ritz Carlton or super deluxe lounge around type of vacation destination. No, this is where the adventure seekers and the eco-tourists will want to be.
For those of you willing to brave the elements in this magnificent eco system you’ll be rewarded with snapshots and memories of the most beautiful birds, including herons, parrots, and toucans (yes, just like the one on that famous cereal box).
Other local wildlife that call the Lago Ypoa National Park home are monkeys, rabbits, snakes, and crocodiles. For those of you not brave enough to get in the water, the waterfalls throughout the park make for the best snapshots; as well as just enjoying the safari walks along the many streams and beaches.
There are parts to the Lago Ypoa National Park that are a bit swampy, so great care is needed when traveling. And despite sometimes being a bit inhospitable, there are many local people who call this area home (usually to the west of Lake Ypoa). They grow everything from grass to cotton; and raise cow, sheep, horses, and pigs. So, it’s not unusual to see the regular farm variety of animal, too.
The weather here in Lago Ypoa National Park can be a bit tough. As you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, summer is from December to March often with seventy percent humidity.I t can sure make for a really bad hair day. But, that’s a small price to pay for this once in a lifetime journey.
If you prefer it a bit cooler, then maybe the middle of winter (July) with its average temperature of about 64°F (and the average number of rainy days is 4) is a better idea.
Whatever season you choose to come to Paraguay and her Lago Ypoa National Park, you’ll just love being in tune with nature. Better be careful of those crocodiles, though!
